My practice primarily deals in landscapes, places, moments. I want to convey a sense of longing for the outdoors, a personification of places. I'm interested equally in both the process of making and the subject of a painting, the works sitting somewhere between figurative representation and slipping into an abstracted retelling. The paint itself becomes a system to process and manipulate my ideas, I choose the initial forms and then let the paint itself construct its own significance.
My work currently focuses on traditional ways of crafting, of making art materials, and how I can use these within my own practice. I started making from materials I could forage or collect. My goal is to make a sort of catalogue out of the work, of the places I have visited and learnt from. The traditional techniques hidden within the paintings of the landscapes they come from.
